Bone Marrow Donation
Bone marrow donation is a medical procedure where healthy bone marrow is collected from a donor to help patients with certain diseases, such as leukemia or lymphoma. Bone marrow is the soft tissue inside bones that produces blood cells. Donors are typically matched with patients based on genetic markers to ensure compatibility.
The donation process can occur in two ways: through a surgical procedure or a non-surgical method called peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donation. In PBSC donation, donors receive medication to increase stem cell production, and blood is drawn through a needle in the arm. The collected cells are then used to help restore the patient's health.
