Bombarde
The term "Bombarde" refers to a type of early brass instrument, similar to a bassoon, that was used in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. It is characterized by its conical shape and a double reed mouthpiece, producing a rich, deep sound. The Bombarde was often used in military and ceremonial music, as well as in folk traditions.
In modern times, the Bombarde is commonly associated with traditional Breton music in Brittany, France. It is typically played alongside other instruments, such as the biniou (a type of bagpipe), to create lively and festive tunes during cultural celebrations and events.
