Bolyai Farkas
Bolyai Farkas was a Hungarian mathematician born on February 9, 1802, in the Principality of Transylvania, which is now part of Romania. He is best known for his work in non-Euclidean geometry, particularly for his contributions to the development of hyperbolic geometry. His ideas were groundbreaking and laid the foundation for future mathematical exploration in this field.
Farkas was the father of János Bolyai, another prominent mathematician who independently discovered similar concepts in non-Euclidean geometry. Farkas's work, although less recognized than his son's, played a crucial role in the mathematical community and influenced later thinkers, including Bernhard Riemann and Henri Poincaré.
