Boże Narodzenie
Boże Narodzenie, or Christmas, is a significant holiday celebrated on December 25th in many countries, including Poland. It commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and is marked by various traditions and customs. Families often gather for a festive meal, which typically includes dishes like carp and pierogi.
In Poland, the celebration begins on Christmas Eve, known as Wigilia. Families share a special meal, breaking opłatek, a thin wafer, and exchanging wishes. Many also attend midnight mass, called Pasterka, to honor the occasion. Decorations, including the Christmas tree and nativity scenes, are common during this festive time.
