Bluestone Dam
Bluestone Dam is a concrete gravity dam located on the New River in Summers County, West Virginia. Completed in 1949, it was built primarily for flood control, water supply, and hydroelectric power generation. The dam creates the Bluestone Lake, which serves as a recreational area for fishing, boating, and camping.
The dam stands 165 feet tall and stretches 1,400 feet across the river. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and plays a crucial role in managing water flow and reducing flood risks in the surrounding areas. The facility also contributes to local ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
