The "Blood Countess," also known as Elizabeth Báthory, was a Hungarian noblewoman born in 1560. She is infamous for her alleged crimes, which included the torture and murder of young girls. Báthory was accused of believing that bathing in their blood would preserve her youth and beauty. Her actions led to her arrest in 1610 and a trial that captured the public's imagination.
Despite her notoriety, the historical accuracy of the claims against her is debated. Some historians suggest that the accusations may have been exaggerated or politically motivated, as Báthory was a powerful woman in a male-dominated society. She died in 1614, confined to her castle.
