Block Island Southeast Lighthouse
The Block Island Southeast Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located on Block Island, Rhode Island. Built in 1875, it stands 180 feet above sea level and is known for its distinctive red and white striped tower. The lighthouse was designed to guide ships safely through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
In 1993, the lighthouse was moved 300 feet inland to protect it from coastal erosion. It is now part of the Block Island Southeast Lighthouse Foundation, which works to preserve the structure and educate visitors about its history. The lighthouse remains an iconic symbol of maritime heritage in the region.
