Blackwater
Blackwater is a private military company founded in 1997 by former Navy SEAL Erik Prince. It gained prominence for providing security services to the U.S. government, particularly during the Iraq War. The company offered training, logistics, and armed protection for military and civilian personnel.
In 2007, Blackwater became controversial after a shooting incident in Baghdad that resulted in civilian casualties. This event raised questions about the accountability and conduct of private military contractors. Over the years, the company has undergone rebranding and changes in ownership, now operating under the name Academi.
