Black-fronted Plover
The Black-fronted Plover is a small shorebird found primarily in Australia and New Zealand. It typically inhabits sandy beaches, mudflats, and estuaries, where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. This bird is easily recognizable by its distinctive black band across the forehead and its pale brown body.
These plovers are known for their unique breeding behavior, often nesting in shallow scrapes on the ground. They are highly protective of their nests and will perform distraction displays to divert potential predators. The Black-fronted Plover plays an important role in its ecosystem by helping control insect populations.
