Black Star Line
The Black Star Line was a shipping company founded in 1919 by African American leader Marcus Garvey. Its primary goal was to facilitate trade and transportation between the United States and Africa, promoting economic independence for people of African descent. The company aimed to connect the African diaspora and encourage pride in African heritage.
Despite its ambitious vision, the Black Star Line faced numerous challenges, including financial difficulties and mismanagement. The company ultimately went bankrupt in 1922, but it remains a significant symbol of the early 20th-century Pan-African movement and the quest for self-determination among African Americans.
