Black Nazarene
The Black Nazarene is a life-sized statue of Jesus Christ, depicted carrying the cross, and is revered by many Catholics in the Philippines. It is believed to have miraculous powers and is housed in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Manila. The statue is made of dark wood and is known for its unique black color, which is attributed to a fire that damaged it in the 18th century.
Every January 9, a grand procession called the Traslacion takes place, attracting millions of devotees. Participants often walk barefoot as a sign of penance and devotion. The event symbolizes the journey of the statue from its original location to its current home, fostering a deep sense of faith and community among the attendees.
