Biodiversity Offset
A biodiversity offset is a conservation strategy aimed at compensating for the loss of biodiversity due to development projects, such as construction or mining. When a project negatively impacts natural habitats or species, the developer is required to create, restore, or protect an equivalent area of biodiversity elsewhere. This helps ensure that the overall ecological balance is maintained.
The goal of biodiversity offsets is to achieve "no net loss" of biodiversity, meaning that any damage caused by development is countered by efforts to enhance or preserve other natural areas. This approach often involves collaboration with environmental organizations and local communities to ensure effective conservation efforts.
