Bibliotheca Corviniana
The Bibliotheca Corviniana was a significant library established in the 15th century by the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus. Located in Buda, it was one of the largest libraries in Europe at the time, containing around 2,000 volumes. The collection included manuscripts and books on various subjects, reflecting the Renaissance's intellectual pursuits.
The library was renowned for its beautiful codices, often adorned with intricate illustrations and bindings. After the death of Matthias Corvinus in 1490, the library faced decline and many of its treasures were dispersed or lost. Today, it is remembered as a symbol of the cultural achievements of the Hungarian Renaissance.
