Beta-Catenin
Beta-Catenin is a protein that plays a crucial role in cell signaling and the regulation of gene expression. It is part of the Wnt signaling pathway, which is important for cell growth, development, and maintaining the structure of tissues. When Wnt proteins bind to their receptors on the cell surface, Beta-Catenin accumulates in the cell and moves into the nucleus, where it helps activate specific genes.
In addition to its role in signaling, Beta-Catenin is also involved in cell adhesion. It binds to E-cadherin, a protein that helps cells stick together, which is essential for maintaining tissue integrity. Abnormal levels of Beta-Catenin can lead to various diseases, including cancer.
