Beta Orionis
Beta Orionis, also known as Rigel, is a bright blue supergiant star located in the constellation Orion. It is approximately 860 light-years away from Earth and is one of the most luminous stars in our night sky, shining with a magnitude of about 0.18. Rigel is significantly larger and hotter than our Sun, with a surface temperature around 11,000 Kelvin.
Rigel is classified as a type B star and is part of a multiple star system, which includes a companion star that is much fainter. Its name comes from the Arabic word for "foot," as it marks the foot of the hunter in the Orion constellation. Rigel plays a crucial role in navigation and astronomy due to its brightness and position.
