Rigel is a bright blue supergiant star located in the constellation Orion. It is one of the most luminous stars visible from Earth and is approximately 860 light-years away. Rigel is classified as a type B star, which means it is much hotter and larger than our Sun, with a surface temperature around 11,000 degrees Celsius.
As the seventh-brightest star in the night sky, Rigel serves as a key navigational point for stargazers. It is often used to help locate other celestial objects and is part of the famous Orion constellation, which also includes the well-known stars Betelgeuse and Bellatrix.
