Bessie Stringfield
Bessie Stringfield was an African American motorcyclist known for her remarkable achievements in the 1930s and 1940s. Born in 1911 in Jamaica, she became the first Black woman to ride solo across the United States. Stringfield completed her journeys on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, often traveling long distances and facing significant challenges, including racial discrimination.
In addition to her solo rides, Stringfield served as a motorcycle courier during World War II, delivering messages and supplies. Her passion for motorcycling and her pioneering spirit made her a trailblazer in a male-dominated field, inspiring future generations of riders.
