Bernard Lyot
Bernard Lyot was a French astronomer born on February 27, 1897, and he is best known for his pioneering work in solar astronomy. He developed the Lyot filter, an optical device that allows astronomers to observe the Sun's atmosphere in great detail by filtering out specific wavelengths of light. This innovation significantly advanced the study of solar phenomena.
In addition to his work on solar observations, Lyot contributed to the field of optics and was involved in the design of telescopes. He also played a key role in the establishment of the Observatoire de Meudon in France, which became an important center for astronomical research.
