Bedford Castle was a medieval fortress located in Bedford, England. Built in the 11th century, it was constructed by the Normans shortly after the Norman Conquest of England. The castle played a significant role in local defense and governance, featuring a motte-and-bailey design, which included a raised earthwork mound and a wooden or stone keep. The castle was besieged during the First Barons' War in the early 13th century and eventually fell into disrepair. Today, only earthworks and some remnants of the structure remain, serving as a historical site that reflects the region's medieval past.
