Bear Attack
A bear attack occurs when a bear confronts a human, often due to surprise or perceived threat. Bears, such as the grizzly bear and black bear, can be dangerous if they feel their territory is invaded or if they are protecting their young. Most bear attacks are defensive rather than predatory.
To reduce the risk of a bear attack, it is important to make noise while hiking, travel in groups, and store food properly in bear country. If confronted by a bear, experts recommend staying calm, avoiding eye contact, and backing away slowly without turning your back on the animal.
