Battlements
Battlements are defensive architectural features commonly found on the tops of castles and fortifications. They consist of a series of raised sections, known as merlons, and lower sections, called embrasures, which provide protection for soldiers while allowing them to shoot arrows or firearms at attackers. This design helps to create a secure vantage point during sieges.
Historically, battlements were essential in medieval warfare, as they offered both defense and a psychological deterrent against enemies. They are often associated with medieval castles and can be seen in various styles across different regions, reflecting the unique architectural traditions of their time.
