Battle of Towton
The Battle of Towton was fought on March 29, 1461, during the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars in England. It was a significant conflict between the Yorkists, led by Edward IV, and the Lancastrians, supporting Henry VI. The battle took place near Towton, in Yorkshire, and is noted for being one of the largest and bloodiest battles of the period.
The Yorkists emerged victorious, which solidified Edward IV's claim to the throne. The battle is estimated to have resulted in around 28,000 casualties, making it a pivotal moment in the struggle for power between the two factions.
