Battle of Sole Bay
The Battle of Sole Bay took place on May 28, 1672, during the Third Anglo-Dutch War. It was fought near Sole Bay, off the coast of England, between the naval forces of the Dutch Republic and the English fleet. The battle was significant as it marked a key confrontation in the ongoing conflict over trade and maritime dominance.
The battle involved around 80 ships and resulted in heavy losses on both sides, with the Dutch suffering more casualties. Although the English claimed a tactical victory, the Dutch maintained their naval strength, continuing to challenge English supremacy at sea throughout the war.
