Battle of Rivoli
The Battle of Rivoli took place from January 14 to January 15, 1797, during the Italian Campaign of the French Revolutionary Wars. It was fought between the forces of the French Army, led by General Napoleon Bonaparte, and the Austrian Army, commanded by Jozsef Alvinczi. The battle was significant for the French, as it solidified their control over northern Italy.
The French forces, numbering around 22,000, successfully defended against approximately 28,000 Austrians. Utilizing superior tactics and the element of surprise, the French achieved a decisive victory, which contributed to the eventual withdrawal of Austrian forces from Italy.
