Battle of Plevna
The Battle of Plevna was a significant conflict during the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). It took place between July 1877 and January 1878, primarily involving the forces of the Ottoman Empire and the Russian Empire. The battle was marked by fierce fighting as the Russians aimed to capture the strategically important town of Plevna, located in present-day Bulgaria.
The Ottoman defenders, led by Gazi Osman Pasha, put up a strong resistance, utilizing well-fortified positions. Despite several assaults, the Russians faced heavy casualties and were unable to secure a quick victory. Ultimately, the fall of Plevna was a turning point that contributed to the eventual Russian success in the war.
