Battle of Palmito Ranch
The Battle of Palmito Ranch took place on May 12-13, 1865, near Brownsville, Texas. It was the last land battle of the American Civil War, occurring after the official surrender of the Confederate Army. Union forces, led by Colonel Theodore H. Barrett, aimed to capture the area from Confederate troops commanded by General John S. "Rip" Ford.
Despite the war's conclusion, the battle resulted in a Confederate victory. The engagement involved skirmishes and artillery exchanges, but it had little strategic impact. The battle highlighted the ongoing conflicts in the region, even as the nation began to heal from the war's divisions.
