Battle of Mycale
The Battle of Mycale took place in 479 BCE during the Greco-Persian Wars. It was fought between the Greek city-states, led by the Athenians, and the Persian Empire. This battle occurred on the coast of Asia Minor, near the island of Samos, and was a decisive victory for the Greeks, marking a turning point in the conflict.
Following their victory at Salamis, the Greeks aimed to eliminate the Persian threat. The battle resulted in the destruction of the Persian fleet and the liberation of the Greek cities in Asia Minor, significantly weakening Persian control in the region.
