Battle of Majuba Hill
The Battle of Majuba Hill took place on February 27, 1881, during the First Anglo-Boer War. It was fought between British forces and the Transvaal Republic (Boers) near the town of Laing's Nek in present-day South Africa. The British aimed to assert control over the region but faced strong resistance from the well-prepared Boer fighters.
The battle ended in a decisive victory for the Boers, who utilized their knowledge of the terrain and superior marksmanship. This defeat significantly impacted British military strategy and led to the signing of the Pretoria Convention, which recognized Boer independence in the Transvaal.
