Battle of Kosovo (1448)
The Battle of Kosovo in 1448 was a significant conflict between the forces of the Kingdom of Hungary, led by John Hunyadi, and the Ottoman Empire, commanded by Murad II. This battle was part of the larger struggle against Ottoman expansion in the Balkans. Hunyadi aimed to halt the Ottomans' advance into Europe, but the battle ended in a decisive victory for the Ottomans.
The battle took place near the site of the famous Battle of Kosovo in 1389, which had already established the Ottomans as a formidable power in the region. The defeat in 1448 weakened Hungarian influence and allowed the Ottomans to consolidate their control over the Balkans, setting the stage for further territorial expansion.
