Battle of Kokoda
The Battle of Kokoda was a significant military campaign during World War II, fought between July and November 1942 in the rugged terrain of Papua New Guinea. It involved Australian forces defending against the advancing Japanese army, which aimed to capture Port Moresby. The battle was marked by harsh conditions, including difficult weather and challenging landscapes, which made combat and supply lines difficult.
The campaign is notable for its strategic importance, as control of Port Moresby would have allowed Japan to launch attacks on Australia. Ultimately, the Australian troops, supported by local Papua New Guineans, successfully repelled the Japanese forces, marking a turning point in the Pacific theater of the war.
