Battle of Fort Texas
The Battle of Fort Texas took place during the Mexican-American War in May 1846. It was fought near the town of Brownsville, Texas, where American forces, led by Colonel Zachary Taylor, defended the fort against a Mexican attack. The battle was significant as it marked one of the early confrontations in the war, highlighting the tensions between the United States and Mexico.
The fort, originally named Fort Polk, was strategically important for controlling the region. The Mexican forces, commanded by General Mariano Arista, aimed to capture the fort to gain an advantage in the conflict.
