Fort Brown
Fort Brown was a military outpost established in 1846 near the banks of the Rio Grande in present-day Brownsville, Texas. It was named after Major Jacob Brown, who died during the Mexican-American War. The fort played a significant role in the conflict and later served as a base for various military operations.
After the war, Fort Brown continued to be used by the U.S. Army until it was officially closed in 1944. Today, the site is home to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and features historical markers that commemorate its military history and significance in the region.
