Battle of Fort Davidson
The Battle of Fort Davidson took place on September 27, 1864, during the American Civil War. It was fought near Pilot Knob, Missouri, as part of the larger Price's Raid, led by Confederate General Sterling Price. The battle was significant for its strategic location, as Fort Davidson was a key defensive position for Union forces in the region.
Union troops, numbering around 1,500, were commanded by Colonel John McNeil. They faced a much larger Confederate force of approximately 6,000 soldiers. Despite being outnumbered, the Union defenders held out for several hours before ultimately retreating, demonstrating their determination and resilience in the face of overwhelming odds.
