Battle of Edgehill
The Battle of Edgehill was fought on October 23, 1642, during the early stages of the English Civil War. It was the first major battle between the forces of King Charles I and the Parliamentarians, led by Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex. The battle took place near Edgehill in Warwickshire and ended inconclusively, with both sides suffering significant casualties.
Despite the lack of a decisive victor, the battle set the tone for the conflict, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of both armies. The engagement marked the beginning of a prolonged struggle for control over England, which would last until 1651.
