Battle of Dan-no-ura
The Battle of Dan-no-ura was a significant naval conflict fought in 1185 during the late Heian period of Japan. It marked the climax of the struggle between the Taira and Minamoto clans, two powerful families vying for control of Japan. The battle took place in the strait between Honshu and Shikoku, where the Taira fleet faced the Minamoto forces.
The Minamoto, led by Minamoto no Yoshitsune, ultimately defeated the Taira, leading to the fall of their clan. This battle is often seen as a turning point in Japanese history, paving the way for the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate and the rise of samurai rule.
