Battle of Crete
The Battle of Crete took place during World War II from May 20 to June 1, 1941. It was a significant military campaign where German forces launched an airborne invasion of the Greek island of Crete. The Allies, consisting of British, Australian, and New Zealand troops, aimed to defend the island against the German assault.
Despite fierce resistance from the Allied forces, the Germans ultimately secured control of Crete. This battle marked the first large-scale use of airborne troops in warfare and had lasting implications for both the Allies and Axis powers in the Mediterranean theater.
