Battle Of Towton
The Battle of Towton took place on March 29, 1461, during the Wars of the Roses, a series of civil wars in England. It was fought between the forces of the Yorkists, led by Edward IV, and the Lancastrians, supporting Henry VI. This battle is notable for being one of the largest and bloodiest in English history, with estimates of around 50,000 soldiers involved.
The battle occurred near Towton, in Yorkshire, and was marked by harsh weather conditions, including heavy snow. The Yorkists emerged victorious, solidifying Edward IV's claim to the throne and significantly weakening the Lancastrian cause.
