Batak People
The Batak people are an ethnic group indigenous to the northern region of Sumatra, Indonesia. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, which includes traditional music, dance, and unique architectural styles, particularly their distinctive wooden houses called Rumah Bolon. The Batak community is divided into several sub-groups, including the Toba, Karo, Simalungun, Pakpak, and Angkola.
Historically, the Batak people were known for their agricultural practices, particularly rice farming, and their strong social structures. They have a deep spiritual connection to their ancestors, which is reflected in their customs and rituals. The Batak language, part of the Austronesian language family, is spoken in various dialects across the different sub-groups.
