Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe
The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a prominent Catholic church located in Mexico City, dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, the patroness of Mexico. It is built on the site where, according to tradition, the Virgin Mary appeared to a peasant named Juan Diego in 1531. The basilica is a major pilgrimage site, attracting millions of visitors each year.
The current structure, completed in 1976, features a modern design and can accommodate up to 10,000 worshippers. The basilica houses the famous tilma, or cloak, of Juan Diego, which bears the image of the Virgin. This site is a symbol of faith and cultural identity for many Mexicans.
