Juan Diego
Juan Diego was a 16th-century indigenous man from Mexico, known for his vision of the Virgin Mary. He was born in 1474 in the area that is now Mexico City. In December 1531, he reported seeing a beautiful lady on the hill of Tepeyac, who asked him to build a church in her honor.
The lady identified herself as Our Lady of Guadalupe, a significant figure in Catholicism. Juan Diego's story is celebrated in Mexican culture, and he was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2002. His feast day is observed on December 9.
