Basarab I
Basarab I, also known as Basarab the Founder, was a significant figure in Romanian history, credited with establishing the Principality of Wallachia in the early 14th century. He ruled from around 1310 to 1352 and is recognized for his efforts to consolidate power and expand the territory of Wallachia. His reign marked the beginning of a distinct political entity in the region.
Under Basarab I's leadership, Wallachia gained independence from the Kingdom of Hungary, which had previously exerted influence over the area. He is remembered for his military prowess and strategic alliances, which helped to secure Wallachia's position in the Balkans during a time of political fragmentation.
