Bartholin gland abscess
A Bartholin gland abscess occurs when one of the Bartholin glands, located on either side of the vaginal opening, becomes blocked and infected. These glands produce fluid that helps lubricate the vagina. When the duct is obstructed, fluid can accumulate, leading to swelling and pain.
Symptoms of a Bartholin gland abscess may include a painful lump near the vaginal opening, discomfort during intercourse, and difficulty walking or sitting. Treatment often involves draining the abscess and may include antibiotics to address the infection. Regular check-ups can help prevent future issues.
