Barkley Dam
Barkley Dam is a hydroelectric dam located on the Cumberland River in western Kentucky, near the town of Grand Rivers. Completed in 1966, it was built to provide flood control, improve navigation, and generate electricity. The dam creates Barkley Lake, which spans over 57,000 acres and offers recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, and camping.
The dam is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and plays a crucial role in managing water resources in the region. It is named after Alben W. Barkley, a former U.S. Vice President from Kentucky. The dam also contributes to local economies through tourism and recreation.
