Barkhane Operation
The Barkhane Operation is a French military initiative launched in August 2014, aimed at combating terrorism in the Sahel region of Africa. It focuses on five countries: Mali, Niger, Chad, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania. The operation seeks to support local forces in their fight against extremist groups, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS affiliates.
This operation involves a combination of air and ground forces, with approximately 5,100 French troops deployed. The goal is to stabilize the region, enhance security, and prevent the spread of terrorism, while also fostering cooperation with local governments and military forces.
