Barbary macaque
The Barbary macaque is a species of monkey native to the mountainous regions of North Africa, particularly in Morocco and Algeria. It is the only macaque species found outside of Asia and is known for its distinctive appearance, featuring a short tail and a thick coat of fur. These monkeys are social animals, living in troops that can consist of up to 100 individuals.
Barbary macaques primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and leaves, but they are also known to eat insects and small animals. They are important for their ecosystems, as they help in seed dispersal. Due to habitat loss and hunting, their populations are declining, leading to their classification as endangered.
