Banaue Rice Terraces
The Banaue Rice Terraces are a series of ancient terraces located in the mountainous region of Ifugao in the Philippines. Carved into the mountains over 2,000 years ago by the indigenous Ifugao people, these terraces are often referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World." They are primarily used for growing rice, which is a staple food in the region.
The terraces stretch over 2,000 square kilometers and showcase remarkable engineering skills, allowing water to flow from the mountains to the fields. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Banaue Rice Terraces are not only vital for agriculture but also serve as a cultural symbol of the Ifugao heritage.
