Ballard Locks
The Ballard Locks, officially known as the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, are located in Seattle, Washington. They connect Puget Sound to Lake Washington and Lake Union, allowing boats to navigate between these bodies of water. The locks help manage the water levels and protect the local ecosystem from saltwater intrusion.
In addition to their functional role, the Ballard Locks feature a fish ladder that enables salmon to migrate upstream. Visitors can watch boats pass through the locks and observe the fish as they swim up the ladder, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists.
