It rises about 562 meters (1,844 feet) above sea level and is known for its dramatic cliffs and unique geological formations. The islet is part of the Lord Howe Island Group, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The area around Ball's Pyramid is home to diverse marine life and is popular for diving and snorkeling. It is also notable for the discovery of the Lord Howe Island phasmid, a rare insect thought to be extinct until it was found on the island in 2001.
