Baldassare Castiglione
Baldassare Castiglione was an Italian diplomat, soldier, and author, born in 1478 in Mantua. He is best known for his book, The Book of the Courtier, published in 1528, which outlines the ideal qualities of a courtier and the etiquette of the Renaissance court. Castiglione's work reflects the values of the Renaissance period, emphasizing grace, wit, and the importance of education.
Castiglione served in various diplomatic roles for the Duke of Mantua and was involved in the politics of his time. His writings influenced European culture and the concept of the "Renaissance man," a person well-versed in multiple disciplines. He died in 1529 in Toledo, Spain.
