Balaenidae
Balaenidae, commonly known as right whales, are a family of large marine mammals found in oceans around the world. They are characterized by their robust bodies, large heads, and lack of dorsal fins. Right whales are known for their slow swimming speeds and are often seen floating at the surface of the water.
These whales primarily feed on small zooplankton, using a filter-feeding system with baleen plates. There are three species of right whales: the North Atlantic right whale, the North Pacific right whale, and the Southern right whale. Conservation efforts are crucial, as many populations are endangered due to threats like ship strikes and entanglement in fishing gear.
